About

Organizational Structure

The members of Democracy without Elections determine the direction of the organization through a democratic-lottery-selected Board of Directors. The Board gives focus and direction to the organization’s activities.

The organization has four Interest Groups that provide members with avenues to pursue their interests. The Coordinating Group manages the monthly meetings and operate the organization under the direction of the Board. The Education Group promotes our goals in the education setting. The Outreach Group manages the website and looks for ways to promote the organization. Individual applications of citizens’ assemblies are promoted by the Projects Group.

Interest Group Leads

Owen Shaffer is the Convenor of the organization. He is also the Lead for the Coordinating Group which directs the organization within the parameters defined by the Board of Directors.

Dave Tarby is the Lead for the Outreach Group. The Group works to spread the word and build a movement centered on democratic lotteries. They work with messaging, promoting writing and speaking engagements of members, and building the membership.

The Projects Group is Lead by Nick Coccoma. They work to build projects in conjunction with politicians at local, state and the national level to solve thorny issues, one at a time. The Group coordinates with sibling organizations to implement projects.

Chris Forman Leads the Education Group. The Group promotes democratic lotteries in schools and universities, both through lesson plans for teachers as well as promoting the use of democratic lotteries in student governance.
